Description

Participants coming to this training will have increased confidence when working with the populations discussed in this presentation. It will help participants provide psychoeducation, affirmative interventions, and help to identify internalized ableism when it arises in order to make needed repairs and changes.

Objectives
  1. Describe different traits found within the autism and adhd neurotypes and provide examples of how these may appear in day-to-day functioning.
  2. Review the 8 sensory systems and how to identify signs of hypo- and hypersensitivity within them. Discuss the definition and purpose of stimming and provide common examples.
  3. Discuss affirmative interventions, supports, and recommendations. Review possible accommodations and modifications.
  4. Describe ableism and internalized ableism. Review specific examples that are common within our society and provide some examples of alternative accepted behaviors and experiences.
  5. Review a few comorbidities to build confidence in understanding certain behaviors or traits you may be seeing or hearing about in sessions, to provide client’s with guidance and further awareness/education about their experiences.
